Words on Erika, by Abby

You know all the cliché words that describe the ultimate companion? Words like kind, honest, friendly, and smart. Erika is all of these, but far from cliché. She’s a study in contrast. She’s effortlessly beautiful and sweet, but on skis she is vicious and takes no prisoners. She likes to dress up, but isn’t afraid to get dirty on a mountain bike. She loves chocolate chip cookies, but knows she should make green smoothies instead. She’s down to earth, but enjoys girly shows like the Bachelorette and Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Since I can remember, I’ve witnessed her pushing everyone around her to work harder, to be better, in turn making herself work harder. She once ran so hard she couldn’t stand, just so her high school team could win State. She is the kind of person that leaves inspiring notes for me before I go on a trip. Some notes I have saved, keeping them safe in my underwear drawer or in journals I write in for skiing. She is the one who makes me laugh the hardest (especially when Christa is involved), laughing so hard to the point where we are crying and about to pee our pants.

Erika has been an amazing athlete her whole life, winning state championships in cross country running, almost winning one in soccer, and winning an NCAA championship in skiing. Not only is she an incredibly inspiring woman in athletics, but also she is a student of life; always interested in new things going on around the world and reading books I put on my must-read list. She is responsible, organized, and good mannered, but knows how to have a good time, and let loose. Could I list any more comparisons? All these opposites are rare in a person, but with so much depth in her character, she becomes a one-and-only sister. I love her and all her different parts, with all my heart.
